The following table explains how to interpret the hard drive status LEDs.
Note –
The front and rear panel Service Required LEDs also light when the system
detects a hard drive fault.

Remove a Hard Drive
Removing a hard drive from the server is a three-step process. You must first identify
the drive you wish to remove, unconfigure that drive from the server, and then
manually remove the drive from the chassis.

Blue
Indicates that a hard drive can be removed during a
hot-plug operation.

Service
Required
Amber
Indicates that the hard drive is has experienced a
fault condition.

OK/Activity
(HDDs)
Green
Indicates the HDD’s availability for use.
• On -- Drive is idle and available for use.
• Off -- Read or write activity is in progress.

(SSDs)
Green
Indicates the drive’s availability for use.
• On -- Drive is idle and available for use.
• Off -- Read or write activity is in progress.
• Flashes on and off -- This occurs during hot-plug
operations. It can be ignored.
