Replacing a hot-plug power supply
The server has two hot-plug power supply units installed, ensuring a redundant
power supply. If one unit fails, the other unit ensures unimpaired further
operation. The defective power supply unit can be replaced during operation.
V
CAUTION!
Before replacing a non-defective hot-plug power supply unit in a non-
redundant configuration (only one power supply unit present), the server
must be switched OFF.
The power supplies are hot-pluggable at 220 V AC only.
V
CAUTION!
Never leave the power supply bay empty for longer than two minutes
during operation. Otherwise, system components might be damaged
because of excessive temperatures.
I
The power supplies are numbered from left to right (1 and 2) as viewed
from the rear of the server. Power supplies must be installed in the
following sequence: power supply 1, then power supply 2.
Complete the following steps:
Ê
Slide the server out of the rack until the slide rails lock into place.
Ê
Remove the server cover (see “Removing the Cover” on page 108).
For the following steps, see figure 25 on page 111:
Ê
Locate the failed power supply unit (green AC/DC LED not lit).
Ê
Remove the failed power supply from the bay:
Ê
Disconnect the power cord from the connector on the back of the failed
power supply.
Ê
Press the locking latch on the power-supply handle and raise the power-
supply handle to the open position.
Ê
Lift the failed power supply out of the bay.
Ê
Raise the handle on the new power supply to the open position.
Ê
Place the new power supply into the power-supply bay in the chassis and
fully close the locking handle.
