Configuring password protection in BIOS Setup
BIOS Setup:
Before using the various options for password protection in the
BIOS Setup
to
increase data security, please note the following hints:
•
Please make sure that you always remember your passwords, as you will
not be able to access your
BIOS Setup
and/or your system any longer if you
forget the user password and the supervisor password.
Passwords are not covered by your warranty and a charge will
be made for assistance.
•
Back up your data on external data carriers at regular intervals
Passwords can be up to eight characters long. You can use all alphanumeric characters
and need not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase characters.
Password protection for BIOS Setup (supervisor
and user password)

We recommend that you print out the following instructions, as these cannot
be displayed while setting the password.
By using both the supervisor and the user password you can prevent unauthorised persons
from opening the
BIOS Setup
. The supervisor password gives you access to all functions of
the
BIOS Setup
, while the user password only provides some of the functions. You can only
set a user password if a supervisor password has already been assigned.

"Settings in BIOS Setup", Page 45
for a description
of calling and operating the BIOS Setup.
Setting the supervisor and user password
►
Call up the
BIOS Setup
and select the
Security
menu.
►
Select the
Set Supervisor Password
fi
eld and press the Enter key.
With
Enter new Password
: you are asked to enter a password.

Enter the password and press the Enter key.
Confirm new Password
then appears and you are asked to con
fi
rm the password.
►
Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
Notice: Changes have been saved
is displayed to con

rm that the new password has been saved.

To assign the user password, select the
fi
eld
Set User Password
and proceed
exactly as when con
fi
guring the supervisor password.
You can exit the
BIOS Setup
once you have
fi
nished changing the settings.

From the
Exit
menu, choose the option
Exit Saving Changes.
The notebook is rebooted and the new password becomes effective. If you now want to
open the BIOS-Setup, you must
fi
rst enter your supervisor or user password. Please note
that you only have access to a few BIOS settings with the user password.
