Finding Phrases
Phrases can be headwords too. Some
of these definitions might be missed if
the root word is the only word typed at
the entry screen.
For example, if you are looking for “cir-
cumstantial evidence” and you entered
only the word
circumstantial, you may not
know that “circumstantial evidence” has
its own dictionary entry. Instead, type an
✽
after the root word to find an expanded
list.

Finding Letters in Words
If you are uncertain about the spelling
of a word, type a question mark in
place of each unknown letter.
Use the asterisk (

) to find prefixes,
suffixes, and other parts of words.
Each asterisk stands for any number
of letters. NOTE: If you type an aster-
isk at the beginning of a word, it may
take a while to find the matches.
