Instruction Manual - Power Supply Units
Series: AVP, ACR, HFxC, HExC, HPxC, customer-specific power supply units
Please read before installation and start-up!
Please read these instructions and warnings thoroughly before you put the unit into operation. Retain this manual for further reference. The unit may only be
installed and put into operation by qualified personnel. In the event of malfunction or damage, turn the power off immediately and send the unit back to the
factory for inspection. The unit does not contain any serviceable parts. Internal fuses (if included) will only trip in case of a unit defect. The data made available
merely describe the product and may not be regarded as warranted characteristics in a legal sense. In case of doubt the German text shall prevail.
Intended use:
This unit has been designed for installation in an enclosure or switchgear cabinet and is intended to be used in general electronic devices like for example for
industrial control, office, communication, and instrumentation equipment. Some of these units are suitable only for railway applications according to EN50155.
Please refer to the conformity declaration or the data sheet. Do not use this unit in control systems where malfunction may cause severe personal injury or
threaten human life.
Warning
Failure to observe the following points include the risk of electrical shock, fire, personal injury or death.
8.
Risk of electrical shock! All types may only be installed by qualified personnel (e.g. IEC60364, VDE0100, VDE0105)! In case of malfunction or
damage turn the power off immediately. Do not try to clear the problem yourself.
9.
Turn the input power off before starting any installation, maintenance or modification work and prevent it from inadvertent re-powering.
10. If the units are equipped with a protective conductor, never operate the units without said conductor. Make sure that the cross-section of said
conductor is compliant with the established guidelines.
11. Prevent any foreign objects from entering the housing.
12. Do not open the units enclosed in a housing. There are high voltages inside.
13. Units in open frame construction include the risk of death! Touching of a component may cause an electrical shock!
14. Do not touch the housing during power-on or immediately after power-off. Hot surfaces may cause burns.
Caution!
Reduction of output current may be necessary when:
6.
minimum installation clearances cannot be met
7.
altitude is higher than 2000m
8.
device is used above +55°C ambient temperature
9.
mounting orientation differs from the standard mounting orientation
10. airflow for convection cooling is obstructed.
Installation
9.
Make sure that the unit is well ventilated by simple air convection or by a ventilator, to avoid overheating. A clearance of at least 10 cm must be kept
when other heat sources are adjacent. Please observe the maximum ambient temperature limitations. Some power supply units may need forced
ventilation by a ventilator. Please refer to the specifications in the data sheet.
10. Output current and output power must not exceed the rated values of the specification.
11. In case of power supply units that are without protection against contact (e.g. ACR, HFxC, HPxC series), an insulation clearance subject to the
grounding concept of up to 10mm has to be kept.
12. In case of power supply units that are partially protected against contact (e.g. AVP
– K/KS/KSL/KSP series), an insulation clearance on the
underside of the unit of at least 5mm has to be kept and insulation material (e.g. Mylar foil) should be applied between the power supply unit and the
end device/system.
13. In case of power supply units that can be print mounted and/or require additional thermal connection via heat conductor pads (e.g. ACR, HFxC,
HPxC, AVP series) the dielectric strength has to be checked after installation in an end device/system. Please refer to the specifications in the data
sheet as to the use of heat conductor pads.
14. Use appropriate copper cables for wiring that are designed for a minimum operating temperature of :
60°C for ambient temperatures up to 45°C,
75°C for ambient temperatures up to 60°C and
90°C for ambient temperatures up to 70°C.
Wire end ferrules are allowed. National regulations and installation instructions have to be kept!

The maximum current above refers to a maximum of 1 to 4 connected wires. When using 5 or more wires the rated current has to be limited to
maximally 80%.
Make sure that all strands of a stranded wire enter the terminal connection and all screws of the connection terminals are well tightened. Fasten the
screws of unused terminals.
15. For units without internal fuse, the lead wire must be equipped with a fuse or an automatic cutout to protect the wire. For units with protected
conductor or units the metal components of which have to be grounded, a fuse or an automatic cutout may be required in each lead. Take care that
the fuse/the automatic cutout are suitable for the voltage to be separated and that they can reliably separate the occurring short circuit currents. If
automatic cutouts are used, chose types with a Z-trip characteristic. For further information, please refer to the respective data sheet
16. All Autronic power supply units have been developed on the basis of valid and customer-specific solutions and in compliance with the EMC
regulations agreed upon. Test reports are available on request. The power supply units are designed for installation in other products by qualified
personnel. They must not be used as independent current supply. Compliance with EMC has to be verified in the end device. These products are
intended for OEMs and system suppliers including distribution channels. They are not intended for end consumers.
