GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND OPERATION

OF MODEL 308 FOLEY SAW CHAIN GRINDER

IMPORTANT

It is very simple to operate the Foley Grinder. All you need do is learn the adjustments before

starting to grind your first chain. This will save you time and trouble. First read all the gen-

eral instructions given in the manual. Have Chain Grinder in front of you as you read the
manual. Then at the start of your first practice session, refer again to the section covering
the particular type of chain you wish to grind.

CHECKING SHIPMENT OF MACHINE FOR

DAMAGE AND COMPLETENESS

Examine Shipment: Carefully inspect the machine for

in transit damage. Look particularly for cracked cast-

ings, bent or broken parts. Any loss of, or damaged

parts should be reported to the freight agent immedi-

ately. Secure the freight agent's notation of loss or

damage on the freight bill. Traffic regulations require

the transportation company to stand cost of repair or

replacement.

REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF

DAMAGED MACHINE

You may elect to file your own claim against the trans-

portation company. In case of damage to easily

replaced parts, order and pay for the new parts needed;

enter your claim for their value against the delivering

carrier. Return entire machine to Minneapolis for com-

plete rebuilding only in case of serious damage.

Alternatively, you may ask the factory to repair or

replace without cost to you. In this case, the following

papers must be sent to Minneapolis so parts replace-

ment may be assessed againsi the transportation com-

pany:

(a) Itemized report showing nature and extent of

damage.

See exploded view drawing for parts indentifica-
tion.

(b) Paid freight bill, bearing agent's notation of dam-

age.

(c) Orginal bill of lading, and invoice (if available).

SETTING UP THE GRINDER

The grinder should be securely mounted to the floor
stand or overhanging on a bench. See Illustration No. I.

If you prefer to operate the chain vise manually you

may remove the lock rod from the vise lever. (See ex-

ploded diagram.)

ASSEMBLY OF FOOT OPERATED CLAMP

Slip the end link of the chain over the lower end of the
lock rod. Attach the spring to the rod and hook the top

end of the spring to the hole in the lock rod bracket.

MOUNT FOOT PEDAL

Mount the foot pedal bracket the floor stand or attach

it to a leg of the work bench (approximately four

inches from the floor). Attach the chain to the foot

pedal so that the height of the pedal is comfortable and

yet will give full clamping travel.
