Discuss typical postural and movement patterns with the user. Likewise
consider overall postural support. Establish whether activity in the torso
or adverse factors associated with sitting are likely to have a negative
effect on the use of the lateral support pad.
•
Use your hands to simulate the most desirable position of the head.
This will enable you to feel where most support is needed. Whist you
are doing this, check the position, as well as the size of the area which
requires supporting. This area must have sufficient and comfortable
contact with the lateral support pad.
•
Ensure that the lateral support pad is not too well tightened so that it
can be adjusted with a slightest of touch by hand. Position the support
pad in the same spot you found when you simulated with your hand.
Adjust the angle and the position in such a way that there is an even as
possible distribution of pressure exerted by the support pad. In as much
as possible, the user should indicate the most comfortable position.
If necessary, the plate in the elongated support pad can be bent. This
makes it possible for the contours of the face to be followed more easily.
