DANGER – Improper connection of the equipment-
grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric
shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer
surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is
the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or
replacement of the cord or plug is necessary, do not
connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live
terminal. Check with a qualified electrician or service-
man if the grounding instructions are not completely
understood, or if in doubt as to whether the unit is
properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided
with the insect killer – If it will not fit the outlet, have a
proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
This unit is for use on a nominal 120V
circuit, and has a grounding plug that
looks like the plug illustrated in Figure A.
A temporary adaptor, which looks like the
adaptor illustrated in figures B and C, may be
used to connect this plug to a 2-pole recepta-
cle as shown in figure C if a properly ground-
ed outlet is not available. The temporary
adaptor should be used only until a properly
grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified
electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug
and the like, extending from the adaptor must
be connected to a permanent ground such as a
properly grounded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adaptor is used, it must be held in
place by the metal screw.
OCTENOL MOSQUITO ATTRACTANT
U.S. Government and university researchers have
demonstrated that octenol, a
component of respiration, is effec-
tive in attracting many species of
mosquitoes and biting flies.
Your Flowtron insect killer uses an
exclusive slow-release Octenol
mosquito attractant cartridge (MA-1000) which
increases the effectiveness of the insect killer to lure
mosquitoes and biting flies into its trap.
Directions for Use:
Remove the octenol cartridge from
the sealed pouch and peel the
protective cover from the face of
the cartridge. Avoid touching the
openings in the cartridge and
always wash your hands thoroughly
after contact. See Figure 1a.
Installation:
1. Remove double face tape from
package and peel off backing paper from one side
of the tape. Press the tape to the bottom of the
octenol cartridge (side opposite evaporation
holes).
2. Peel backing paper off opposite side of the tape.
Press cartridge in place over rectangle opening in
the lens as shown in Figure 1b.
Operation:
When your insect killer is on it will provide the
convective air flow to vaporize the lure and disperse
it at the proper rate per hour for
maximum effectivity. Replace the
octenol cartridge after 450 hours
of insect killer operation (approxi-
mately three weeks).
MAINTENANCE
Trap –
Empty the trap frequently
to insure proper air flow through
the unit. To empty the trap
loosen the thumb screw located
at the bottom of the trap and
remove trap from the unit. See
Figure 2.
To re-install the trap, position the cut-out at the top of
the trap over the bulb socket, align the thumb screw
with the threaded end of the center rod and twist
thumb screw clockwise until tight.
Fan –
Clean fan by removing trap and blowing out
dead insects and insect
debris using a blower such
as a portable hair dryer or
the exhaust attachment of a
vacuum cleaner. Do not
hose or spray your unit.
Bulb Replacement:
To replace bulb: Refer to
Figure 3.
1. Disconnect unit from
power source.
2. Remove lens by remov-
ing three screws.
3. Disengage bulb from
bulb clips by pulling clips outward.
4. Disconnect bulb from bulb socket by pulling bulb
outward.
5. To install replacement bulb, align bulb pins with
pin holes in socket, push bulb firmly in place.
Replace bulb clips and secure lens in place with
screws.
6. Re-connect unit to power source.
Note
: Use only Flowtron BF-180 ultraviolet replace-
ment bulb available from your Flowtron dealer or
