Lock-in
8.9.1
General
The lock-in technique is commonly used in thermography to improve the sensitivity of the
camera and to extract from the thermal signal the thermal effects corresponding to an ex-
ternal excitation in the object under evaluation.
The FLIR X6530sc features a lock-in signal input BNC connector on the back panel of

The value of the signal is digitalized during the integration of the infrared image and em-
bedded within it. It is then recorded by ResearchIR Max and stored in the sequence file
image headers. Files recorded with ResearchIR Max can subsequently be exploited with
FLIR Thesa software. Contact your FLIR representative for further information.
Note
When conducting lock-in experiments it is highly recommended to place a large
non-polarized capacitor (e.g., 1 µF 100 V or 1 µF 63 V) in series with the input.
