Creating volumes and shares

Before you can begin storing data in your Silent Cubes storage
system, you first need to create a so-called volume. This is a reserved
memory area in which you can create as many directory structures
and shares as needed. You can also expand the size of a volume later
should the need arise. The maximum size a volume can be equals the
available memory of all Silent Cubes integrated into the system.

Volumes are managed in Cube Manager through the

Volumes &

Shares

item in the Administration menu. To create a new volume,

click on the

Add volume

button. Give the volume a meaningful name

and save it. It will thereafter appear in the Administration submenu.

Now define an SMB/CIFS or NFS share by clicking on the appropriate
button. Select the volume you created in Step 1 in the menu which
follows and assign a name. Once you’ve finished configuring the
share, it will likewise appear in the overview along with the previously
created volume.

The share created in Cube Manager will then be available to you for
the archiving of data.
