a weight of the bale and divide it by the volume
calculated above. The result will give you the bale
density in kg/m3.
When testing silage, green chop or windrow hay in a
plastic bucket, you must use the probe W-253. It is not
necessary to select the bale density when using this
probe.
1. In a bucket, prepare a sample of forage which
comprises 4 to 5 layers. Each layer should be hand
compacted to 200N (about 20kg) of pressure.
2. Insert the probe into the forage firmly so that the
dish in complete contact with the sample. Make sure
that no part of the dish or probe is in contact with the
bucket.
3. Depress the meter continuously downwards with a
20kg force. While applying pressure, depress and
release the Power button. Maintain pressure
downward and wait for moisture reading.
