Williams Refrigeration has supplied a comprehensive solution, worth more than
£600k, for the new Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to meet a range of demanding
temperature controlled storage requirements across kitchen, laboratory and
teaching areas.
Williams Scotland, the company’s contracting division for the region, worked
closely with the Edinburgh Royal Joint Centure the consortium with overall
responsiblity for the PFI project to identify and fulfil the hospital’s refrigeration
requirements.
The hospital wanted to employ a facility off site for food production, with meals
supplied as frozen to the Infirmary and then stored in the Williams cold/freezer
rooms, before being regenrated as part of a cook chill process.
The purpose built kitchen area features five Williams’ modular coldrooms and
one freezer which are also intended to hold fresh vegetables an essential part
of the patients’ menu and support the hospital’s small special dietary kitchen.
Williams’ compact Pearl cabinets were also selected to offer convenient
refrigeration on the hospital’s wards.
As well as the catering element of the project, Williams has also project managed
the installation and commissioning of 26 temperature controlled rooms for
laboratory use throughout the hospital.
