Using the Rice Bowl
If you want to steam some rice, other grains, or any food item that is too small to
place directly in the steamer baskets, use the rice bowl.
Simply fill the rice bowl with rice, seasonings, and water in the proportion
indicated on the packaging. Place the rice bowl inside the lowest steamer basket
and cook for the time indicated on the packaging. You may steam other items
simultaneously in the other steamer baskets if you wish.
The rice bowl comes with a small flat separator that you may insert diagonally
into the bowl to cook two types of rice or vegetables at the same time.
Cooking Tips
1. Never overfill the steamer baskets with food, or completely cover the holes on
the bottom of the baskets. Remember that in order for the cooking to occur,
steam must flow through the baskets and around the food. If you cover the
holes on the bottom of the baskets completely (for example, with a piece of
foil) steam will not be able to flow freely.
2. Place larger items, or those that require longer cooking times in the lower
steamer basket, because steam will be hottest at its source.
3. If you are cooking different food types on different levels, bear in mind that the
top layers might drip some juices on to the bottom layers.
4. If you want to cook foods with different cooking times, place the food with the
longest cooking time in the lower steamer basket. Once the shorter cooking
times of the upper basket or baskets are up, you can remove just these
baskets, and place the lid on the basket(s) below it to continue cooking.
5. If you want to cook a very large item, you can remove the bottoms (separators)
from the mid and large baskets, and create one large cooking basket. See
“Operating instructions: Cooking with the steamer Baskets” in this manual.
Note:
do not remove the bottom of the smallest basket This piece must
always be in place when cooking, so that food is not able to make contact
with the drip tray below.
6. In order to reduce the cooking time, fill up the water tank with lukewarm water.
7. If you are cooking a large quantity of food, remove the lid halfway through
the cooking time, and gently stir the food to make sure all sides get cooked
evenly. Replace the lid and add 2-3 extra minutes to the cooking time to make
up for the heat loss.
