Automatic initialization is useful when the original host properties do not
contain information about VPN+ identities. For example, this can happen
in the following scenario:
The host is imported from a Windows domain. (The F-Secure
Management Agent is installed remotely.) Because VPN+ is not
installed, no information about VPN+ identities can be obtained.
VPN+ is installed using a policy-based installation. The host now
knows its VPN+ identities and that information is written to
statistics. F-Secure Policy Manager Console notices that host
statistics contain VPN+ identities. If the ‘Initialize from Status
Information’ check box is selected, then the host properties are
initialized as described above, and a notification is displayed in
the Messages pane of F-Secure Policy Manager Console.
The main difference between autoupdate and automatic initialization is
that automatic initialization occurs only once. Autoupdate will always
update properties, even if the value had been manually typed in originally.
Automatic initialization is much more restricted: if a field already has a
value, then it is never modified. It does not matter whether the initial value
came from host statistics or was defined manually.
