Load Balancing With Windows Network Load
Balancing Service
Load balancing between multiple instances of F-Secure Internet
Gatekeeper can be implemented with a Network Load Balancing service,
which is included in Windows Server 2003. The Network Load Balancing
service distributes incoming traffic among multiple servers, so they can
handle more traffic and provide higher availability and faster response
times.
F.4.1
Requirements
In this chapter we set up network load balancing for 500 users in the local
network with 4 MB connection. You should use at least two servers with
the following hardware configuration:
Both servers do not have to be identical in the performance.
You can add new servers (up to 32 in one cluster) easily while the
system is running, without reconfiguring or restarting previously
configured servers.
Servers can be connected to the local area network, and they
need to be able to communicate with multicast or unicast.
Operating System:
Windows Server 2003
Processor:
Pentium III 1 GHz
Memory:
1 GB
Hard disk:
Ultra 160 SCSI Hard disk
Network card:
100 Mbit/s Ethernet. Only one network card
per server is sufficient.
