Dos and Don’ts
Do
Try the H-clamp in any position on your instrument where you think
it will work well.
Do
Read the manual carefully, particularly if your instrument’s body
tapers or has domed panels or if you intend to use heavy micro
phones and/or mounts. The manual also contains general precau-
tions and basic information about applications.
Do
Consult a reputable dealer, maker or repairer of instruments similar
to your own if you have any reservations about using the H-clamp.
Do
Take care when setting-up and using the H-clamp. It has many fea-
tures to make it as safe and easy to use as possible and in general,
using the H-clamp should be safer than close-micing using a con-
ventional microphone stand. Nevertheless, a moment’s carelessness
could still result in damage to instrument, microphone or both.
Do
Be aware of the H-clamp protruding from your instrument when
moving around with it.
Do
Look out for trailing wires and use the recommended methods for
strain relief on microphone cables to minimise the risk of tripping or
snagging causing the H-clamp and/or microphone to be dislodged.
Don’t
Let go of the microphone or H-clamp boom until you’re certain:
1.
the microphone clip or mount is screwed tightly onto the boom
2.
the boom grip is tightened enough to hold the weight of your
microphone and/or mount
3.
the H-clamp is attached to your instrument sufficiently securely
that it won’t fall off or work loose while you are playing.
Don’t
Drop your instrument on its back or side with a microphone sus-
pended over it on the H-clamp and if you lay it down with the H-
clamp attached, make sure the boom will not fall on your instru-
ment under the weight of whatever is attached to it.
