VERVIEW
Certain records retention and data security applications require a Write Once,
Read Many (WORM) method for storing data on tape. To meet this data
storage requirement, a new WORM feature is now available on the Exabyte
221L and 221L-FC Libraries when you have an LTO-3 tape drive installed.
Note:
Only the LTO-3 tape drive has WORM capability. It is not available on the
LTO-2 or LTO-1 tape drives.
No physical hardware changes are required to make the tape drive compatible
with the WORM feature; however, appropriate WORM-capable drive
firmware must be installed. See
to determine the
firmware requirements.

Because standard read/write media is incompatible with the WORM feature, a
specially formatted WORM tape cartridge (see
) is required. Each
WORM cartridge has a unique, worldwide cartridge identifier (WWCID),
which comprises the unique CM chip serial number and the unique tape
media serial number.
