Use the zigzag foot to sew basting lines 1cm
(3/8 inch) apart, across the area to be
smocked.
Knot the threads along one edge.
Pull the bobbin threads and distribute the
gathers evenly. Secure the threads at the
other end.
Reduce the tension, if necessary and sew
decorative pattern stitches between the
straight seams.
Pull out the gathering basting.

It is used to decorate the front of blouses or cuffs. The smocking stitch adds texture and
elasticity to fabric.
