High-Speed CAN
The High-Speed operating mode of the CAN interface requires the use of bus
termination resistors.
In accordance with the CAN specification, a bus termination resistor of
120
Ohm is required at each of the two open ends of the bus. This has to be
connected to the cable or to the connector. ETAS supplies cables and termina
-
tion resistors of 120
Ohm for setting up CAN networks.

LIN Interface (CAN1/LIN1, CAN2/LIN2)
The ES592.1 has two LIN interfaces. One each of the LIN interfaces is routed to
the two 8-pin CAN1/LIN1 and CAN2/LIN2 connectors (Lemo socket) on the
front panel.
LIN1 and LIN2 are completely independent LIN interfaces with separate con
-
nections and LIN controllers. The LIN interfaces establish a simple and direct
connection between the ES592.1 and the LIN network. The interfaces are gal
-
vanically isolated from each other and from the other interfaces of the ES592.1
and are also protected against overload and incorrect stress.

Operating Modes
Each of the two LIN interfaces are configured as a LIN slave.

Power Supply on the Bus
The LIN nodes of the ES592.1 can either be powered externally by the LIN bus
or internally by the module. The type of power supply must be configured in the
application software.
To adhere to the reference level (and thus identical thresholds) at the individual
nodes of the LIN bus, the LIN transceivers (physical layer) of all bus nodes
should be powered with the same voltage. It is recommended that you power
off the internal power supplies and operate all nodes of the LIN bus with the
external voltage which also powers the other bus users (LIN_UBATT, see
Fig.
25).

NOTE
The four interfaces CAN1 and LIN1 (CAN1/LIN1 connector) or CAN2 and
LIN2 (CAN2/LIN2 connector) can be configured and used simultaneously
and independently of one another.
