Intruduction
With our modular baffle set suitable for two „sugar cube“ speakers
11x15mm you can easily assemble your tailormade speaker baffle. Both
diameter and height can be individually adopted to your needs. You can
build on of the following speakers from this kit:
The minimum height is 6mm, which can be raised to 8mm, 9mm, 10mm,
11mm or 13mm by adding up to three intermediate frames. The set con-
tains two 2mm high and one 3mm high intermediate frame for each ver-
sion.

Preconsiderations
First you should select one of the three base frames subject to the type of
speaker you want to assemble. In general, the bigger the speaker baffle,
the better the sound will be (bass frequency reproduction).
Assembly
All parts of the kit will be still be assembled to the sprue. The speaker itself
is already preassembled to a base plate. On the picture to the left you can
see which parts belong to which base frame.
• Cut the base plate from the sprue first using a sharp knife. Make sure that
you will not damage the small „hooks“ of the base plate.
• Now, seperate the base frame and the intermediate frames from the sprue.
• Next, preassemble the base frame, intermediate frames and the cover (use
a tape to temporarily hold everything in place) and check the installation:
Does the sound baffle fit into your locomotive? If too large, remove some
intermediate frames.
• If everything is allright, you can put the sound baffle together by using
plastic glue. Start from the bottom with the cover and add all interme-
diate frames one after the other. We recommend a plastic glue like Uhu®
Plast Special. Do not use too much glue! Just make sure the baffle will be
airtight.
• The last step is to glue the speaker into the baffle frame so that it is air-
tight. Apply a little (!) glue to the areas around the base frame shown
in red. Assemble the speaker next by just putting it into the base frame.
Make sure the small „hooks“ will fall in place.
•
You can not disassemble the speaker later, because the small hooks
would be destroyed most likely.
Connection
Each 11x15mm speaker has an impedance of 8 ohms. Both speakers need
to be wired in parallel which results in a total impedance of 4 ohms. When
used with any LokSound decoder from version 4 this will result in audio
pressure considerably better than with one circular speaker intended for
these dimensions.
During wiring please make sure that the „+“ and „-“ polarity of each
individual speaker will be followed to ensure the movement of the speaker
cones is in the same direction. If the polarity is mixed, the speaker cones
will move in the opposite direction which will result in a very silent sound.
Solder the speaker wires to the speaker terminals using a slim soldering
tip as shown below.
Make sure that no short circuits between the speaker terminals and the
metal speaker itself will be created. This may destroy the decoder‘s ampli-
fier output!
