Note:
n
ever operate the handle while welding, not to shorten lifespan of the coal
brushes in the LAB Sources.
7) OPERATION
After connecting the LAB Source to the power line; switching on the wire feeder; installing the suitable wire
and the welding gun; establishing the shield gas and connecting the welding cable, proceed to the following
operations:
1) place the ON/OFF switch in the ON position; the exhauster engine starts creating an air flow which is
needed for the machine refrigeration. The pilot lamp turns on.
2) preset the welding voltage in the power source. The clockwise handle rotation increases the voltage
value (and consequently the current value); the anti clockwise rotation has an opposite effect.
3) preset wire speed in the coupled wire feeder.
4) Preset the shield gas flow
5) Open the arc and, if necessary, readjust welding voltage, wire speed and shield gas flow.
Note:
the voltage and current values basically depend on the material and wire
diameter in use; on the thickness of the to-be-welded piece and on the welding
position.
6) in transfer welding by short circuit, set the inductance value to fit the dynamic characteristic of the
LAB Source to the short circuit frequency.
8) MAINTENANCE
8.1) General
at least once a month,
In normal environment and operation conditions, the LAB Sources do not require any special maintenance
service. You must only clean them internally
with low pressure, dry and oil-free
compressed air.
After cleaning with compressed air, check the tightening of electrical and components connections. Check
for possible cracks in the insulation of electrical wires or cables, including welding cable and other
insulators. Replace them in case they are defective.
8.2) Repairing
To assure perfect functioning and performance of the ESAB equipment, use only original replacement
parts supplied by ESAB or the ones with its approval. The use of non-original or not- approved parts leads
to warranty cancellation.
Replacement parts can be purchased at ESAB authorised services or sales branches as indicated at the
last page of this manual. You must always indicate model and series number of the LAB Source in question.
