8. No serv or not able to connect calls.

Find out if the fault is Rx- or Tx-related.
Connect the phone (with signaling program) to a GSM test instrument and try to get serv at –68.5dBm signal
strength.
•
If the phone doesn’t get serv, go to 8.2.
•
If the phone gets serv, go to 8.3
8.2
The phone doesn’t get serv.
Open the phone and check for water damage.
Make sure the back cover is of the correct model since there is two kinds. Fig. 8.1 shows what kind of back cover
is to be used with which board.

Replace the antenna connector and try again. Note that there are different models of the connector. It’s important
that you don’t assemble the wrong one. Fig. 8.2 shows the different kinds of connectors and which boards they
belong to.

If the phone gets serv, go to 8.3.

The fault probably lies in the LO part or the losses in the signal path are too great. It’s also possible that it’s a
feed voltage fault.
Open the phone.
Measure the resistance from the marked side of C416 to ground (fig. 8.3, >100 kohms).
