6.1.1.1  Maintenance counters

Flushing waste ink counters Af, Bf:
These counters keep in memory the waste ink addition points by flushing on the 
0th column side (Af) and 80th column side (Bf) temporarily. The value of each 
counter is maintained even with the power turned off.

Waste ink protection counters A (0th column side), B (80th column side), C (TI = 
0: at unidentified time):
These nonvolatile counters keep in memory the values determined after 
evaporation calculation of ink drained from the pump. The values of the counters 
are incremented by a main suction, minute amount suction, idle suction or 
periodical idle suction sequence. When the specified limit is exceeded, the printer 
goes into an error state and stops, displaying “waste ink overflow”.

Waste ink protection counters SA (0th column side), SB (80th column side), SC 
(TI = 0: at unidentified time):
These nonvolatile counters monitor the total amount of waste ink. The values of 
the counters are incremented by a main suction, minute amount suction, idle 
suction or periodical idle suction sequence. When the specified limit is exceeded, 
the printer goes into an error state and stops, displaying “waste ink overflow”.

Waste ink protection counter for platen area P
This nonvolatile counter monitors the ink that has leaked into the Platen area 
during borderless printing. One is added when the waste ink counter for platen 
area p reaches the specified value. When the specified limit is exceeded, the 
printer goes into an error state and stops, displaying “waste ink overflow”. For 
waste ink in the Platen area, evaporation calculation is not performed.

Waste ink counters for holders K (0th column side), K (80th column side):
These nonvolatile counters monitor the amount of ink that has leaked during 
cartridge installation and removal. The values of the counters are incremented 
according to the time of pressure release timer. The minimum unit of the counters 
is 1 mg. When the specified limit is exceeded, the printer goes into an error state 
and stops, displaying “waste ink overflow”. The judgment of an error is made 
when the power to the mechanism is turned ON or when the cover is opened.

Tube maintenance counter:
This nonvolatile counter monitors the total number of drive passes of Ink Tube 
Assy by CR driving.
To prevent ink leakage caused by degradation of tubes, the printer goes into an 
error state and stops, displaying “maintenance error”, when the specified limit is 
exceeded.

The amount of ink (CF) in the Cap can be converted from Af. 
Therefore, there is no independent counter for CF.

Do not open or close any of the I/C Covers unnecessarily.
If you take out any ink cartridge immediately after opening the I/C 
Cover, the value of the counter increases because of a large 
amount of ink leakage. Therefore, you are recommended to wait 
for seven or more seconds after opening the I/C Cover and then 
remove the ink cartridges.
