7-2. Operation
1. Before the GDL 69/69A can be used, the unit must
be activated by XM Satellite Radio with a service
subscription through XM Satellite Radio. The weather data
link and the additional audio entertainment services must
be activated separately.
2. Pilot control of the GDL 69\69A is through the
interfaced control and display unit, such as the Garmin
GNS 400W/500W series or GMX 200.
3. For additional information on GDL 69/69A data
linked weather displays and interfaces, refer to the
applicable Garmin Pilot’s Guide listed in Table 1-1.
7-3. Weather
1. To reach the XM Weather page on the GNS
400W/500W series unit, press and hold the
CLR
key to
select the Default NAV page display. Turn the small right
knob to select the the XM Weather page (immediately
following the MAP page). The XM Weather page can show
NEXRAD weather data, colored flags showing which
airports have METARs, Lightning (LTNG) reports, Cell
Movement, or Winds Aloft.
2. To reach the XM Weather page on the GMX 200
unit, press the
FN
key and then the
FIS
function key
when displayed. The
Crnt
function key provides additional
weather sub-functions.
7-4. Radio
1. To reach the XM Radio pages on the GNS
400W/500W series unit, press and hold the
CLR
key to
select the Default NAV page display. Turn the large right
knob to select the AUX page group. Turn the small right
knob to select the XM Audio function pages.
2. To reach the XM Radio pages on the GMX 200 unit,
press the
FN
key and then the
XM
function key when
displayed.
