Orientation
The direction of the arrow on the sensor nameplate helps you to install the sensor according to the
flow direction (direction of medium flow through the piping).
An optimum orientation position helps avoid gas and air accumulations and deposits in the
measuring tube.
The measuring device also offers the empty pipe detection function to detect partially filled
measuring pipes in the event of outgassing fluids or variable process pressures.

Measuring electrodes for signal detection
• Ideally, the measuring electrode plane should be horizontal. This prevents brief insulation of
the two measuring electrodes by entrained air bubbles.
• Empty pipe detection only works if the transmitter housing is pointing upwards as otherwise
there is no guarantee that the empty pipe detection function will actually respond to a
partially filled or empty measuring tube.
Inlet and outlet runs
If possible, install the sensor upstream from fittings such as valves, T-pieces or elbows.
Observe the following inlet and outlet runs to comply with accuracy specifications:
≥ 5 x DN
≥ 2 x DN

Adapters
Suitable adapters to DIN EN 545 (double-flange reducers) can be used to install the sensor in larger-
diameter pipes. The resultant increase in the rate of flow improves measuring accuracy with very
slow-moving fluids.
