FRU
(field-replaceable
unit)
A hardware assembly that can be replaced by trained personnel on
site, instead of at the point of manufacture.

GBIC
Gigabyte Interface Card. A device for converting Fibre channel
signals from copper electrical to optical, and vice versa.

HBA (host bus
adapter)
Another name for Fibre Channel host bus adapter.

L
LCC (link control
card)
A FRU in a DAE enclosure that connects Fibre Channel signalling to
the disk modules. An LCC provides Fibre Channel connectivity
between the storage processor, disks, and other enclosures on a loop.
It also provides bypass capability for faulted or missing units, and
monitors and controls enclosure elements.
LUN (logical unit)
One or more disk modules (each having a head assembly and
spindle) bound into a group — usually a RAID group. The operating
system sees the LUN, which includes one or more disk modules, as
one contiguous span of disk space.

NAS
(network-attached
storage)
A self-contained, intelligent, multi-disk RAID system that attaches
directly to an existing LAN. A NAS device is typically a dedicated,
high-performance, high-speed communicating, single-purpose
machine or component. NAS devices are optimized to stand alone
and serve specific storage needs with their own operating systems
