4:
Applying Power for the First Time
Outlined below are the steps that should be followed when applying power to the equipment
for the first time. This procedure covers the IQ-2000 and the IQ-5000 Positioning Drive Module
(PDM), the IQ-5000 PSM, Motors and the Operator Terminal.
These start-up procedures assume that the equipment has previously been mounted and wired,
but has not had power applied to it.
Start-up Procedure for IQ-2000 PDMs
1. Prior to applying power to the PDM, ensure that the supply voltage is in the proper
range (100–240 VAC).
2. With power off, ensure that proper connections have been made to:
• PDM-10, -20 and -30 terminals L1 and L2/N. Ensure that a proper ground is con-
nected also.
• PDM-75 and PDM 150 terminals L1, L2/N and L3. Ensure that a proper ground is
connected also.
If auxiliary power is used, ensure proper connections are made to terminals L1 AUX and
L2/N AUX.
3. With input power still off, disconnect motor leads from PDM terminals R, S, and T. Ver-
ify with an ohmmeter that the resistance between PDM terminals R to GND, S to GND,
and T to GND is above 500k ohms. If the resistance is acceptable, reconnect the motor
leads to the PDM terminals marked R, S, and T.
4. Turn power on.
5. Double-click the IQ Master icon to run the IQ Master software.
6. Choose File >Initialize Personality Module to display Figure 4.1.
Warning: Dangerous voltages may exist after power is removed!
Check DC bus voltage each time power is removed before work-
ing on the PDM.
