BOOST HEATER

Model: EM-WX01-120-1-06

1 kW, 120-Volt, Single Stage, 6” Duct Section

Drawings: EL910, UAW881, XX017

This is more than a typical duct heater or duct section strip heater, this model also includes an electronic
duct sensor and a controller for modulating the electric element for a fixed outlet temperature.

Airflow

As a 6” duct section, this unit requires a minimum of 150 CFM.  The electric element should never be
allowed to come on when there is no airflow (see Control section).

Observe the airflow arrow decal, install with the proper orientation.

Temperature Rise Chart

See “Temperature Rise Chart” on attached document EL910.

Clearance – Duct Surface Areas, Duct Installation, Etc.

When installing this duct heater, NEC 424, Part IV, Duct Heaters, applies.

When installed in an “inline” duct or round pipe adapter for a general distribution boost heater or air
make-up application, observe the following guidelines:

1.

This product must be installed in a metal duct, size of the element rack.

2.

There shall be no insulation on the inside of this sheet metal duct section.

3.

Any flex-pipe or other insulated pipe must be at least 24” away from the electric element.

4.

If there is a need to insulate this duct section for moisture condensation or in an unheated
compartment, it is permissible to wrap insulation around the exterior of this metal duct section.

5.

The control box must be positioned so it will not receive water drippings or collection of
moisture.

6.

The control box must be positioned upright in order for the internal temperature limit to be
positioned correctly

Electrical Hookup

Power Source

 – simply plug in the cord.  This unit must be connected to a 120V 15A or 20A dedicated

circuit.

Electric Supply

 – see “Electric Supply” table on attached document EL910.

Controls

 – in addition to plugging in the cord, there must be an external arrangement for low voltage

system interfacing.  This external arrangement requires the installing contractor/electrician to apply
24VAC to the “Y” and “C” tabs on the circuit board in the unit (yellow and black wires).  Note: This
24VAC applied must come from a field provided transformer.  This external arrangement will vary based
on the application the EM-WX01-120-1-06 is being used in but will consist of an external interlocking
relay contact (example, thermostat, flow switch, pressure switch) and external transformer (external
switch and transformer are not included with the EM-WX01-120-1-06).  An external interlocking contact
is necessary to prevent unsafe operation.
