Start the engine and let it run for about 10 minutes so that the additive can take effect in
the fuel system.
After you have done this, you can complete storage of the genset:
¨
Clean the genset thoroughly, see
“7.1 Cleaning and care” on page 102
.
¨
Secure the genset to prevent it being switched on accidentally by pulling out the spark
plug connector, see
“7.4.2.3 Spark plug” on page 110
¨
Set up the genset in its storage location.
¨
Make sure that storage does not exceed 2 months.
7.2.2 Long-term storage
Long-term storage is necessary when the genset is not needed for an extended period and
should also not be stored ready for operation. The same requirements apply for this at the
storage location as described in the chapter
. However, due to
the uncertain duration, a few preservation measures are necessary before putting the genset
into long-term storage so as to protect it against corrosion and other damage:
¨
Clean the genset thoroughly, see
“7.1 Cleaning and care” on page 102
.
¨
Use suitable preserving agents to protect the surfaces of the housing and the
components.
¨
Completely drain the fuel tank, see
“5.2.4 Emptying the fuel tank” on page 95
.
¨
Change the oil and carefully close the oil filler neck.
¨
Perform the following steps to preserve the engine compartment:
– Use a spark plug spanner and remove the spark plug.
– Add approximately 10 cm³ of engine oil to the cylinder through the spark plug
opening.
– Actuate the recoil starter slowly several times to distribute the oil in the engine.
– Screw the spark plug back in.
¨
Close off the air filter’s suction opening and the exhaust outlet airtight.
¨
Secure the genset by pulling out the spark plug connector to prevent it being switched
back on accidentally, see
“7.4.2.3 Spark plug” on page 110
.
¨
Put the genset into long-term storage and use an air-permeable cover to protect it
against dust deposits.
While the genset is in long-term storage, its general condition must be checked regularly (at
least every six months) at the storage location.
ATTENTION!
The measures outlined here are suitable for long-term storage in weatherproof
conditions. More detailed information about long-term storage under different
conditions is available from our Customer Service, see
