Appendix 2: Description of different pF-sets
To determine the soil moisture retention characteristic, the desired pF-set(s) is/are required. A balance with
an accuracy of 0.01 g, and a ventilated electrical drying oven (105
°
C), are also necessary. Eijkelkamp Soil &
Water supplies the following:
A sandbox for pF determination (pF0 -2.0). The standard set (art. no. 0801) for about 40 samples includes:
• Sandbox
• Containers with synthetic sand, particle size ± 73 mm, 12.5 kg each
• Filter cloth, 140-150 mm
• Set of 65 o-rings, diameter 49x3 mm: suitable for 5 cm diameter core rings
• Omega ruler
A Sand/kaolin box for pF determination (pF2.0 - 2.7). The standard set (art. no. 0802SA) for about 40 samples
includes:
• Sand/kaolin box
