Spark Arrestor Screen
Level 2.
Tools required:
Screwdriver, 3 mm Hex Wrench,
Soft metal brush
Parts Required:
Spark arrestor screen P/N 14586240630,
Gasket P/N V104000350
IMPORTANT
Carbon deposits in muffler will cause a drop in engine output and
overheating. Spark arrestor screen must be checked periodically.
1. Remove starter assembly and engine cover as described in
"Cleaning Cylinder Fins," pages 19 - 20.
2. Remove spark arrestor covers (A) and (B), gasket (C), and spark
arrestor screen (D) from muffler. Replace screen if it has holes
burned through, or is plugged with carbon deposits.
NOTE
When cleaning carbon deposit, be careful not to damage the
catalytic element inside muffler.
3. Install spark arrestor screen, gasket, and covers.
4. Install engine cover and starter assembly.
10. Install engine cover with starter base. Make sure mounting holes
are aligned.
11. Install (4) base screws. Do not tighten.
12. Install (4) engine cover screws. Do not tighten.
13. Tighten starter base screws and engine cover screws.
14. Install starter housing and secure with 3 screws.
NOTE
When installing starter housing to starter base be sure drive starter
cam engages the starter pawls correctly.
