GE AM [Cable or Hard Bus Application]
Ground and Test Device

Figure 5.7. Hardware Detail of Terminal (1) and Ground (2)
c. After removing the primary disconnect knobs from the bushings,
remove the primary disconnects to be installed from the G&T
storage area below the terminal access doors at the lower front
of the G&T. (Figure 5.2 and 5.3) Thread them onto the bushings.
The primary disconnects just removed should be promptly stored
in the storage area on the G&T to avoid damage to them.
d. Hand tighten the primary disconnects onto the primary bushings.
Again, using only the bushing wrench provided and 1/2 in. drive
torque wrench, torque the primary disconnect knobs to 55 ft-lbs.
(Figure 5.5) Overtightening these knobs is not necessary and may
damage the knobs or make them very difficult to remove at a
future time.
e. THE GROUND AND TEST CODE PLATE MUST BE CHANGED AT
THIS TIME. The Ground and Test Device will be blocked from full
insertion in the circuit breaker compartment until the code plate
position is changed. The code plate is a mandatory safety feature
that must not be removed and discarded.
f. The code plate is located on the left hand side of the G&T as
one faces the device; located approximately half way back
approximately six inches from the floor. (Figure 5.4) Interference
blocking is provided by a cylindrical post that is threaded into the
code plate bracket. Using a flat blade screw driver, remove the
post and move it to its appropriate position.
g. For AM13.8 G&T 1200A circuit breaker compartments, the post
should be in the lowest position on the code plate bracket.
h. For AM13.8 G&T 2000A circuit breaker compartments, the post
should be in the next position up from the 1200A code plate
position.
i. The AM4.16 G&T 1200A code plate has a single post, where as
the AM4.16 G&T 2000A has two posts. The provided code plate
should be exchanged when converting the ampere between
1200A and 2000A.
j. With the G&T properly configured for the circuit breaker
compartment into which it is to be installed, proceed to the
insertion procedure.
5.3 INSTALLATION OF GROUNDING CABLES
ote:
N
Use hardware provided with the
Ground and Test Device
installed as
shown. (Figure 5.7)
a. Determine the set of terminals to be grounded for test purposes.
b. Using the key provided with each G&T device, unlock the
appropriate door, exposing the terminals.
ote:
N
This feature is not applicable for single terminal Ground and Test
Devices.
