What is body fat? (BF)?
The body fat percentage (BF%) is represented by the essential body
fat and deposited fat. The essential body fat is necessary for maintaining life
and reproductive functions. For men, it is about 2-5% of the total body mass
while at women it is between 8-12%.
For women, the optimal body fat level is between 25% and 31%.
For men, the optimal body fat level is between 18% and 24%.
The exception is professional sport players because of the increased muscle
mass. The table below shows the body fat levels for different sports.
