Disassembly Instructions – Cup-Wheel Grinder – 3.0 hp.
Motor Disassembly:
1. Disconnect the tool from the air supply hose.
2. Use the 95304 Open-End Wrench (24 mm) to hold the 55224 Nut stationary. Use a 5/32" hex key to
remove the 95323 Screw and the 55239 Retaining Washer. Remove the abrasive wheel and the
55225 Cup Wheel Backup Flange.
3. Place the top of the housing flat on a bench with the work spindle pointing up.
4. Use a 10 mm socket wrench to remove the 50508 Screws (4), washers, the 55231 Guard Assembly
and 95881 O-Ring. Carefully remove motor from the housing.
5. Secure the 55224 Nut in a vise with aluminum or bronze Jaws, so that the governor assembly is
pointing up.
6. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the governor assembly from the motor. Turn clockwise.
(LEFT HAND THREADS)
7. Remove the motor from the vise, and fasten a bearing separator around the 55201 Cylinder. Fixture
the motor with the separator in the 96232 Arbor Press (#2) so that the threaded spindle is pointing
down. Use a press tool to push the rotor out of the 02552 Bearing.
8. Remove the vanes from the rotor, and secure the rotor in a vise with aluminum or bronze Jaws with
the threaded spindle pointing up.
9. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the 55224 Nut. Turn counterclockwise.
10. Remove the front bearing plate, bearing, shims and 55223 Spacer.
11. Use a press tool with a .5920" (15.4 mm) outside diameter to remove the 01825 Bearing from the rear
bearing plate.
Motor Disassembly Complete
Throttle Disassembly:
1. Secure the 01697 Inlet Bushing in a vise with aluminum or bronze Jaws so that the motor housing is
pointing up.
2. Roll back the 07136 Handle Grip to expose the 52495 Cup Nut.
3. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the 52495 Cup Nut and remove it from the throttle handle.
Turn counterclockwise. – NOTICE: This procedure can also be used to reposition the throttle lever.
Loosen the 52495 Cup Nut and turn the throttle handle, moving the throttle lever to the desired
position. Tighten the cup nut to secure the throttle handle. (Torque to 45 N•m/400 in. - lbs.)
4. Remove the 01017 Pin and the 01089 Safety-Lock Throttle Lever.
5. Remove the 07147 Plug, the 07168 Valve Stem Assembly, and 07145 Spring.
Throttle Disassembly Complete
Important: Clean and inspect parts before assembling.
Assembly Instructions – Cup-Wheel Grinder – 3.0 hp.
Throttle Assembly:
1. Install the 01089 Safety-Lock Throttle Lever and secure it with the 01017 Pin.
2. Install the 07168 Valve Stem Assembly and secure it with the 07147 Plug with the 07146 Packing.
(Torque to 17 N•m/150 in. - lbs.)
3. Apply a small amount of clean grease to the 01746 O-Ring and place it into the recess in the 52491
Bushing. Apply a small amount of Loctite #567 (or equivalent) to the threads of the throttle handle.
Thread the 52494 Throttle Handle into the 52495 Cup Nut. Rotate the 52494 Throttle Handle to the
desired throttle lever position. Tighten the 52495 Cup Nut. (Torque to 45 N•m/400 in. - lbs.)
4. Roll the 07136 Handle Grip back into place.
Throttle Assembly Complete
Motor Assembly:
1. Secure the 55200 Rotor in a vise with aluminum or bronze Jaws so that the threaded spindle is
pointing up.
