Pronto2K/ProntoHD Hardware Guide
5.1 Hard Disk Maintenance
This section deals with the possible event of a hard disk failure. First,
a description how to act in the event of a disk failure is described, fol-
lowed by some information that you should observe if you want to for-
mat the video hard disks.
5.1.1 How to Act when a Hard Disk Fails
With the Pronto2K/ProntoHD you will notice a broken hard disk when
a proper play-out or record of video is no longer possible. Then you
have the possibility to replace the broken disk.
The replacement of a failed disk can be divided into four steps:
1. Remove the hard disk from the video system.
2. Replace the hard disk.
3. Reassemble it into the video system.
4. Set up the stripe set again.
All steps are explained in the following.
Step 1: Removing the Video Hard Disk
The video hard disks that are accessible at the front of the video sys-
tem, store the video data. Because they are connected to the whole
system with the help of disk carriers, they can be removed easily.
If a hard disk fails, your data will be unrecoverable. It is
strongly recommended to perform backups of your data at
regular intervals.
The Pronto2K/ProntoHD software provides some tools to
recognize the condition of video hard disks, for example,
whether one is defective or still suited for real-time operation.
