Functional scope
The gas analyzer samples inhaled and exhaled gases from adult
and pediatric patients in non-, partial-, and total rebreathing sys-
tems. It measures inspiratory and expiratory gases and communi-
cates in real time to the patient monitor.
The gas analyzer is available in 4 variants with different functions
as listed below:
Functional principles
The gas analyzer utilizes IR spectroscopy for carbon dioxide,
nitrous oxide, and volatile anesthetics measurement. Each gas,
with its own specific absorption characteristic, is transported
through a sample cell. Multiple optical IR filters select specific
bands of IR light, which then are analyzed with a detector. The
amount of IR light received by the detector is a measure of gas
concentration. This means the higher the gas concentration, the
less IR light will be received by the detector.
For oxygen measurement, the paramagnetic characteristic of oxy-
gen molecules is used. The gas is transported through a sample
cell, where the paramagnetic effect of oxygen is measured. The
higher the oxygen concentration, the greater is the measured
effect.
Assembly and preparation
Mounting description
The power supply unit shall be mounted in one of the following
mounting options:
– Inlet for mains power downwards
or
– Inlet for mains power horizontally with the power supply label
downwards.
The power supply unit must not be mounted with the inlet for
mains power pointing upwards.
Connecting the mains power supply
The mains voltage must correspond to the voltage range indicated
by the rating plate on the rear of the device.

Risk of inaccurate gas measurement values
If the medical device is connected to a power socket with-
out a protective grounding, the electromagnetic compatibil-
ity of the device may be compromised.
Only connect the power cable to sockets with a protective
ground.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock and device failure
Do not place any containers with liquid on or above the
device. Penetrating liquid may cause malfunction of or
damage to the device, which may endanger the patient.
Mount the power supply unit only in the orientation
described in the chapter "Mounting description".
