Mounting and installation
The following sensors can be inserted in the junction boxes
and connected remotely to a PointGard 2200 CAT. 3-core and
5-core wiring is possible.
– Catalytic DrägerSensor
®
DQ or LC continuously monitor
combustible gases and vapors containing hydrocarbons
and non-hydrocarbons (e.g. hydrogen or ammonia) in
ambient air.
– Infrared DrägerSensor
®
IR continuously monitors
combustible gases and vapors containing hydrocarbons in
ambient air.
CAUTION
Explosion hazard
The instrument itself is not suited for operation in hazardous
areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
►
Not to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
3.2.4 PointGard 2700 IR Remote
PointGard 2700 IR Remote can be connected to PIR 7x00
with different explosion protection types.
– Explosion proof (Ex d) Polytron
®
junction box with PIR
7x00
– PIR 7x00 for increased safety (Ex e) explosion protection.
The following PIR 7x00 sensors can be connected remotely to
a PointGard 2700 IR. Only 5-core wiring is possible.
– PIR 7000 continuously monitors combustible gases and
vapors containing hydrocarbons. PIR 7000 has a
integrated gas/vapor library containing >100 substances.
– PIR 7200 continuously monitors carbon dioxide.
CAUTION
Explosion hazard
The instrument itself is not suited for operation in hazardous
areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
►
Not to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
3.3 Intended
use
The instrument is intended to continuously monitor ambient
air for toxic or combustible gas concentrations. When the gas
concentration exceeds the defined alarm threshold, the built-
in alarm devices (horn and strobes) of the instrument are
triggered. External alarm devices can also be connected and
triggered by the built-in relays. An integration in an alarm
management system is possible using the 4-20mA interface
or relays.
The instrument is not suitable for operation in hazardous
areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.

Mounting and installation
4.1 Opening and closing the instrument
WARNING
Risk of electric shock
Opening the instrument during operation can result in an
electric shock.
►
Disconnect power from the instrument and wait at least 1
minute before continuing.
1. Loosen the screws and open the cover.
2. Ensure the following connections are properly made:
a. Wiring screws are tightened to the correct torque (4.4
... 5.3 Lbs. In. / 0.5 ... 0.6 Nm).
b. All cable connectors are secured with screws.
c. The sensor connector is plugged (PointGard 2200
CAT only).
d. Cable cores of cables that lead into the housing are
secured with a cable ties.
3. Close cover and tighten screws with correct torque (22
Lbs. In./ 2.5 Nm).
4.2 Power supply connector and wiring
tables
A 3-pin connector is provided to connect a power supply
cable. Refer to figures 15 and 16.
