Thank you for buying a DLS MAGNESIUM subwoofer.
This manual will advice you in your installation. A correct
installation is important to achieve the best possible
sound from your speakers.
The speakers are mainly designed for box mounting.
When mounting the speakers "open air" the power
handling capacity is reduced with 30% from the nominal
value. Use high class speaker wires, min 2.5 mm

CONNECTION:

Connected with a 6 dB passive low-pass x-over = 6,3 mH coil in
series. X-over frequency 100 Hz.

Connected with a 12 dB passive low-pass x-over = 10 mH coil in
series and a bipolar capacitor of 300

µ

F in parallel.

X-over frequency 95 Hz.

Mono bridge mode with an active low-pass filter before the
amplifier. Read your amplifiers manual about connecting a sub in
bridge mode.

You can find more ideas about boxes in the DLS
sound handbook which can be ordered from your
dealer. It is also available in PDF-format on our
WEB site On the back  of this page you find some
box examples for DLS MAGNESIUM subwoofers.

MOUNTING:

I THE HAT RACK OR BEHIND THE REAR SEAT.

To avoid rattle use a baffle of MDF or particle board, min
19 mm, for speaker mounting. Attach screws to all
screw holes and tighten them even to avoid the speaker
basket to get inclined.

BOX MOUNTING:

A speaker box is normaly made of MDF or particle board,
min 19 mm. The box must be air-tight. Use sealing compound
in all joints and at the cable entry. Mount screws every 10 cm.
Both sealed, vented and most types of bandpass boxes are
suitable for DLS MAGNESIUM subwoofers. The sealed box
is good for hard rock and disco music and gives a good
control of the cone. The vented box is more efficient and gi-
ves a 3 dB higher level than the sealed type.
In small vented boxes the ports can become rather long. You
can angle the port inside the box or mount it out from the box,
for example when the ports are mounted through the hat
rack. There must be a free space of at least the port diameter
behind the port opening inside the box.
Use ports with conical openings to avoid noise at low
frequencies caused by air turbulence at the port edge.

DIRECTION OF THE BOX:

In a  SEDAN-type car the best result is achieved when
the box with both speaker and port is directed towards
the rear seat. The port should not be directed up
through the hat rack if the speaker is directed towards
the back of the rear seat. In a large hat rack both
speakers and ports can be mounted up through the hat
rack with a box under it.
A bandpass box is normally installed with all port
openings up through the hat rack.

Two 4 ohm subs are normally connected in stereo since most
amplifiers can´t handle bridge mode connections below 4 ohms.
We recommend the use of a subsonic highpass filter. This  gives
a better bass reproduction with less "rumble". In DLS and
GENESIS amplifiers this feature is built-in.
If you want to connect one or more subs in some other way,
contact your local dealer for advice.

In a small car like VW GOLF or similar, and also in
station wagon types the box should be directed towards
the back of the car.

IMPORTANT!

The speaker cone is made of magnesium, a material
of low weight with excellent acoustic qualitys.
We recommende you to NEVER touch the cone body
with you fingers.
Remaining deformation of the cone body will
occour if you push it with your fingers.
Also think of the speaker weight when you mount it.
If you don´t mount it properly it can get loose.
