Important Safety Instructions
•
This manual contains important safety and operating instructions for AC/DC converter
DW0247.
•
Before using, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the converter and product
using the converter.
DANGER: 120 volts present inside unit and at charging terminals. Do not probe with con-
ductive objects. Danger of electric shock or electrocution.
DANGER: If converter case is cracked or damaged, do not plug into AC outlet or insert into
tool. Return the unit to an authorized D
E
WALT service center. Danger of electric shock or
electrocution.
DANGER: The AC/DC Converter and power tool may produce a small magnetic field. Users
with cardiac pacemakers should keep Converter and power tool at least 6” (15 cm) away
from implanted device. Users should immediately stop using this product, remove power,
and call physician if any physical effects are felt.
•
Do not expose converter to rain or snow.
•
Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by D
E
WALT may result in a risk of fire,
electric shock, or injury to persons.
•
This converter is not intended for any uses other than powering D
E
Walt 24 volt tools. Any
other uses may result in risk of fire, electric shock or electrocution.
•
To reduce risk of damage to electric plug and cord, pull by plug rather than cord when dis-
connecting converter.
•
Make sure cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise sub-
jected to damage or stress.
•
An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of improper exten-
sion cord could result in risk of fire, electric shock, or electrocution. If an extension cord must
be used, make sure:
•
That the pins on plug of extension cord are the same number, size and shape of those
of plug on converter.
•
That extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition; and
•
That the wire size is large enough for ac ampere rating of converter as specified below.
An extension cord must have adequate wire size (AWG or American Wire Gauge) for safety.
The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cable; that is 16
gauge has more capacity than 18 gauge. When using more than one extension to make up
the total length, be sure each individual extension contains at least the minimum wire size.

The converter is ventilated through slots in the housing. Do not place any object on top of
converter or place the converter on a soft surface that might block the ventilation slots and
result in excessive internal heat. Place the converter in a position away from any heat source.
•
Do not operate converter with damaged cord or plug — have them replaced immediately.
•
Do not operate converter if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged
in any way; take it to an authorized service center.
•
Do not disassemble converter; take it to an authorized service center when service or repair
is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock, electrocution or fire.
•
To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug converter from outlet before attempting any cleaning.
Wipe with clean, dry cloth.
•
NEVER attempt to connect 2 converters together.
•
DO NOT store or use the tool and converter in locations where the temperature may reach or
exceed 105°F (such as outside sheds or metal buildings in summer).
•
The converter is designed to operate on standard 110 volt household electrical power. Do not
attempt to use it on any other voltage!
•.
WARNING: Don’t allow any liquid to get inside converter. Electric shock may result. To
facilitate the cooling of the Converter after use, avoid placing the converter or battery pack in
a warm environment such as in a metal shed, or an uninsulated trailer.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction
The AC/DC converter is designed to provide power for DeWALT 24 volt cordless tools. Insert the
converter in the tools battery slot and plug converter into AC outlet. The converter will act as the
power source to the tool. Your AC/DC converter should only be used with standard household
120 VAC, 50/60 Hz power.
1. Insert the converter into the appropriate tool. Be sure the converter is fully seated in the
tool. The tool latch will hold the converter in place.
2. Plug the converter into an appropriate AC power outlet. The AC converter is designed with
a soft start circuit that gradually applies full power to the tool in about two seconds.
3. The converter is designed with an internal fan to facilitate cooling. The fan should be run-
ning when power is applied. Keep vent openings clear of obstruction to ensure maximum
performance and minimize risk of fire.
4. Use the tool according to the tool instructions. Make sure the cord is located so that it will
not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
Additional Specific Usage Instructions
1. The converter may become warm to the touch during use. This is a normal condition and
does not indicate a problem.
2. The converter can provide surge power for excessive loads when given short rest periods
between loading cycles. The internal components will protect the converter from damage
during overloading periods by reducing the total available surge power. Surge power can
be restored by allowing the internal fan time to cool components. Blocking the vent open-
ings on the converter will result in reduced output power capability and increase the risk of
fire.
3. Do not store or use the Converter where the temperature may drop below 32˚F (0˚C).
4. When the Converter is unplugged, the fan will continue to run for several seconds. This is
a normal condition and does not indicate a problem.
5. The cooling fan can be heard in normal running. If excessive noise is audible, take the unit
to an authorized service center.
Important!
The converter is not user serviceable. There are no user serviceable parts inside the con-
verter. Servicing at an authorized service center is required to avoid damage to static sensi-
tive internal components.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Use only mild soap and damp cloth to clean the converter.
WARNING: Don't allow any liquid to get inside converter. Electric shock may result.
CAUTION: Never attempt to open the converter for any reason. If the plastic housing breaks or
cracks, return to a service center for recycling.
