SMART DUCT SYSTEM
Dettson Industries also offers Smart Duct System.
Please refer to the Smart Duct Manual (X40240) for
proper installation of this system.
5.3
RETURN AIR CONNECTIONS
The return air duct must be connected to the bottom, left
side or right side. If necessary (depending on your filter
restriction), provision should be made for a double return.
In downflow configuration, side return air is not permit-
ted, it must be connected to bottom.
5.3.1
Bottom return
In Upflow orientation, for the bottom inlet, installer can
use a return air base. This base allows the connection
of the duct on the side with a bottom inlet. See the part
list options for the part number corresponding to your fur-
nace.
Cut a rectangular opening on the bottom plate of the fur-
nace using the knock-outs. To know what dimension to
be used, refer to the input of the furnace as showed on
fig 15 Dimensional drawing. Install the return air inlet as
per local codes.
5.3.2
Side return
Remove 4 knock-outs on the side of the furnace of the 8
knock-outs available. Use the knock-outs related to the
furnace size as shown on Figure 15 Dimensional draw-
ing. Install the return air inlet as per local codes.
5.4
SUPPLY AIR DUCTS
The supply air duct must be connected ONLY to the fur-
nace supply outlet air duct flanges or air conditioning coil
casing (when used). DO NOT cut main furnace casing
side to attach supply air duct, humidifier, or other acces-
sories. All accessories MUST be connected to the supply
or return ductwork external to furnace main casing.
5.4.1
Ductwork acoutiscal treatment
