34.4 REMOVAL OF THE FLYWHEEL
Pre-cleaning is not necessary.
Remove as follows:
1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor (CKP). Refer to section .
2. Remove eleven of the twelve
fl
ywheel attaching bolts, leaving one bolt at the 12 o'clock
position.
3. Install two
fl
ywheel guide studs (J–41672) through the
fl
ywheel and into the crankshaft
at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.
4. Attach the
fl
ywheel lifting tool (J–25026) or some other suitable lifting device, to the
fl
ywheel.
5. Attach a chain hoist to the lifting tool.
6. Loosen, but do not remove the last
fl
ywheel attaching bolt.
FALLING FLYWHEEL
To avoid injury from a falling
fl
ywheel when removing the
last bolt, hold the
fl
ywheel against the crankshaft by hand
to prevent it from slipping off the crankshaft. The
fl
ywheel
is not doweled to the crankshaft.
7. Lift lightly on
fl
ywheel using lifting device and remove last bolt.
BODILY INJURY
To avoid injury from a falling component, ensure a proper
lifting device is used. Never stand beneath a suspended
load.
8. Remove
fl
ywheel.
