PROBLEM
TROUBLESHOOTING SUGGESTIONS
Confirm that the Common Cable, see
Table F1
, connects the
WAN Common Port
of the
MULTINET
switch
™
to the
WAN MONITOR
port of the dual DSS Server and the
LAN
Common Port
of the MULTINET
switch
™
to the
LAN MONITOR
port of the dual DSS
Server. If using the MULTINET
switch
™
with two DSS Servers, two Common Cables are
required: one from the
WAN Common Port
of the MULTINET
switch
™
to the
WAN MONI-
TOR
port of the WAN DSS Server and one from the
LAN Common Port
of the
MULTINET
switch
™
to the
LAN MONITOR
port of the dual DSS Server.
If you are unable to capture data or access one segment, swap out the cable with a known good
Datacom Systems cable.
Disconnect the patch cable from the suspect switch port. Reconnect it to a switch port that
has been working properly. If the problem exhibited by that segment is the same as the
suspect port, the problem is the cable not the switch.
Disconnect a patch cable from a switch port that is functioning properly and reconnect it
to the suspect port. If the suspect port still fails, the problem is in the switch. Contact
Datacom Systems, Inc. Customer Service.
IMPORTANT
The distance parameters of Ethernet and Token Ring must be adhered to. Distance must be
measured from the monitor card of the DSS Server to the hub, including all cable attached
to and going through the switch.
If the problem occurs consistently on all ports of the switch and the cables have been verified
and checked, try connecting the hub or MUX directly to the DSS Server monitor card, bypass-
ing the switch. If the DSS Server now allows analysis, the problem is in the switch. Contact
Datacom Systems, Inc. Customer Service.
