Chapter 12: Ventilation operation
Transition from Natural to Tunnel
When the controller is in Natural ventilation mode, and the house/barn temperature is above Set Point +
Power Ban Natural Natural Ban Tunnel offset, and all outside temperature and
age conditions are met, but the temperature is still rising, all conditions are met to transition from Natural
to Tunnel.
Tunnel fans are not yet running, but Tunnel inlets are moving.. The Tunnel mode lock in time is set.
When 50% of the Tunnel stage 1 opening percentage is reached, Tunnel stage 1 fans start and then
Power fans and Power inlets are going to operate as assigned in Tunnel ventilation mode. All non- Natural
inlet equipment assigned in Natural are going to operate now as assigned for Tunnel mode.
In Tunnel ventilation, whisker switch and Natural transition openings are no longer considered. All equip-
ment influenced by transition settings follow the operation as specified in the ventilation grid for Tunnel
ventilation.
Stir Fans: How it works
Stir fans are used to move air around and to keep the animals cool. They work very much like the fans
you use in your home on a hot day.
Stir fans can be used in Power, Natural and Tunnel ventilation modes and can run at the same time as
other fans. There are no inlets nor air speed associated with stir fans. Although you enter the stir fans in
the ventilation grid, their CFM is not considered in the stage CFM capacity.
Stir fans can be assigned to start either according to the average house/barn temperature (chill mode), or
according to sensors specifically assigned to the stir fan (delta mode), or a combination of both.
Delta mode
In order for delta mode to be accessible, there must be at least two temperature probes assigned to the
stir fan. When the difference between the temperature readings of the two probes rises above the mini-
mum delta temperature entered in the stir fan setup, the associated stir fan turns on. The stir fans makes
the air circulate in the house/barn to even out the house/barn temperature.
Variable capacity stir fans in delta mode
When assigned to a stage in delta mode, a variable capacity stir fan starts at its minimum capacity (set in
the ventilation grid for that stage) when the measured delta is equal to or higher than the
Min delta
set-
ting. The fan capacity is increased as the temperature delta increases to reach its maximum capacity at
Max delta
. The stir fan continues to run as long as the temperature delta does not drop below
Min delta -
0.5°F
or when the stage changes. When house/barn temperature induces a stage change (to a higher or
lower stage) stir fans are now controlled by their settings on the new stage.
