Warnings, Cautions, and Notes
Operator's Manual
1-7
During this period of no communication, the INVOS™ system will continue to monitor the patient
and generate alarm signals. The operator of the remote display should not rely upon the remote
display’s alarm system to generate alarm signals.
WARNING:
The use of accessories, sensors, and cables other than those specified may result in poor
performance of the INVOS™ system and increased electromagnetic emissions or decreased
electromagnetic immunity of the INVOS™ system.
WARNING:
Portable RF communications equipment (including peripherals such as antenna cables and
external antennas) should be used no closer than 30 cm (12 inches) to any part of the INVOS™
system, including cables. Otherwise, degradation of INVOS™ system performance may result.
WARNING:
Choking hazard — The reusable sensor cables (RSCs) include a strain-relief clip that, if detached,
may pose a choking hazard.
WARNING:
As with all medical equipment, carefully route patient cabling to reduce the possibility of patient
entanglement or strangulation.
WARNING:
Always disconnect and remove the INVOS™ system and sensors during magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) scanning. Attempting to use the INVOS™ system during an MRI procedure could
cause burns or adversely affect the MRI image or the INVOS™ system's performance.
1.4.3
General Cautions
Caution:
INVOS™ system readings represent a small volume of tissue beneath the sensor and may not
reflect oxygenation disturbances that occur elsewhere.
Caution:
Make sure all connectors are fully engaged and free from moisture. Moisture intrusion may cause
inaccurate readings, erratic readings or no readings at all.
Caution:
Use care when placing or removing sensor. Do not place on broken or undeveloped skin.
