After installation, please review this document in full. Understanding this material will help you operate the
units more efficiently.
•
VOX operation: Box Office/Transaction intercoms on the market today employ VOX technology.
This means that conversations are one-at-a-time, not full duplex like land-line telephone systems
(where participants can talk and listen at the same time). VOX technology must be employed to
prevent feedback that would occur if microphones and speakers were ‘live’ on both sides. [Note:
telephones do not have this problem because the sound travels directly into the ear and not to the
mouthpiece].

The VOX switch decides which conversation to allow and which one to block based on
microphone sensitivity. Therefore, Field Calibration and speaking directly into the microphone
(rather than at a computer screen) is imperative for proper operation.

In order to be completely satisfied with units remember to:
1. Train all personnel that conversations are one-at-a-time. Do not interrupt the customer when the
customer is talking.
2. Speak directly at the gooseneck microphone 2” -3” away. If this is difficult to do, consider our
headset options.
3. Field Calibrate the units. High ambient noise on one side (relative to the other side) will cause
clipped conversatio ns. Adjusting the microphone sensitivity will bring the VOX switch back into
