7.0 Inspection Procedure
Look for etching or chipping on the top plate. If any of these conditions are
present, discontinue use and contact Corning for additional instructions.
Check if the power cord is damaged. If the cord is damaged, do not
modify the grounded power plug to avoid shock hazard or any other unit
component. Service should always be done by qualified technicians using
Corning instructions. Contact Corning for additional instructions.
8.0 Preventive Maintenance
Disconnect power by unplugging the unit before performing any
maintenance or service.
Always use a grounded power outlet.
Keep the top surface clean and dry. Unplug the unit and use non-abrasive
cleaner. Contact Corning if you have any questions about the compatibility
of decontamination or cleaning agents.
Clean spills promptly. If liquid or solid material gets inside the product,
immediately disconnect power to the product, use non-abrasive cleaner,
and discontinue use. Contact Corning for additional instructions regarding
interior spills.

10.0 Technical Support/Service
If you have a question or a service inquiry about the Corning® Scholar
PC-170 Hot Plates or PC-171 Stirrer, contact Corning Customer Service
immediately at 1.800.492.1110 (United States and Canada), 1.978.442.2200
(outside the United States), or Contact your local Corning sales office.
Before returning any unit for service, a Return Authorization (RA) number
must first be obtained. Equipment sent in without our prior authorization
will be returned at the customer’s expense. When returning a unit to
Corning for service, it should be sent in the original packaging. If this is not
possible, be sure that the unit is sufficiently packed. Any damage resulting
from improper packaging is the responsibility of the customer. A written
explanation should accompany the unit along with the RA number.
