In the left-hand position below, Black may play at e2. Then the white pieces on e3, e4 and e5 are enclosed in
an unbroken vertical line between the new black piece and the one on e6. The 3 white pieces are all flipped
over, so that their bla
ck side is showing; they are “captured”, but they remain on the board.
The same piece can change colour several times during the game, and more than one row of pieces can
change at once. In the right-
hand position (above), if White plays at g4, this “captures” pieces in 3 directions:
f5-e6-d7, f4, and f3-e2.
If a player cannot place a piece in such a way as to surround and capture one or more pieces of the opposite
colour, he must “pass” and his opponent has another turn.
8.3.4 Result of the game
Neither player can insert more than 32 pieces. The game ends when they are both unable to play, and the
winner is the one with more pieces of his own colour on the board. If they both have the same number, the
game is a draw.
