Installing a Hard Disk
☞
The manufacturer’s full manual in English is available on the CD as a PDF
fi
le. This contains a
detailed description of how to install the hard disk, including pictures.
If you do not have the expertise to install the device correctly, please contact an expert or a
specialist workshop and let them carry out the installation.
• To install your 3.5 hard disk (not enclosed) in the device,
fi
rst unscrew the two screws on the back. After
this, pull the small cover, together with the screws, back and off.
• Now, slide the insert in the enclosure forwards and take it out.
• Insert your hard disk into the enclosure at a slight angle. First, insert the side of the hard disk with the
connector into the enclosure. Once the connectors on the hard disk and the board in the enclosure have
made mechanical contact, place the front part of the hard disk in the enclosure and push it backwards until
the connectors are fully connected.
• Now, carefully turn the device around and secure the hard disk using the 4 thicker screws enclosed.
☞
We recommend you press the hard disk slightly upwards with your
fi
ngers. This makes it easier
to secure the screws.
• Then, push the insert back into the enclosure. Make sure the two holes on the enclosure are at the bottom
and the longer side of the guide rail is located at the back. You can use the on/off switch for orientation.
• Now, reattach the cover with the two screws on the back.
• Finally, stick on the feet.
Attach the two plastic feet to underneath the enclosure’s feet using the two small screws provided. Stick
the two rubber pieces to the bottom of the feet.
Finally, place the hard disk in the aluminium base.
Connection and Getting Started
☞
The product is designed so that the operating system and the data are all saved on the hard
disk.
Therefore, it is necessary to
fi
rst install the system image on the hard disk before you can use
the device in the network.
• To install the operating system on the hard disk, you
fi
rst have to connect the enclosure to your computer.
For this purpose, connect the USB cable enclosed to a free USB port on your computer and to the USB
host connection on the enclosure.
• Now, connect the wall plug transformer to the device and then plug it into a mains socket.
If the hard disk does not start automatically, press the on/off button on the front of the enclosure.
• Switch on your computer, if you have not yet done so, and wait until the operating system has
fi
nished
loading.
Once the start-up is complete, the hard disk should be recognised by the system in the same way as any
other external USB hard disk. No driver installation is necessary.
• Insert the enclosed CD in a suitable drive on the computer to which you have connected the network
enclosure via USB.
• In Windows Explorer, navigate to the drive where the CD is located and open the folder “Firmware”.
This folder contains two
fi
les. One of them has the
fi
le extension “exe”. This is an installation utility. The
other
fi
le has the extension “bin”. This is the
fi
rmware
fi
le.
☞
The
fi
le names used for newer products might be slightly different from the ones described here.
This is because newer versions might be saved on the CD. However, the basic
fi
le names should
be the same.
• Now, start the
fi
le “
1.0.6.3-POWER7_ONE_BAY_NAS Device_Upgrade.exe
”.
☞
Depending on the operating system, the Windows user account control may prompt you to
con
fi
rm the start of the application. In which case, click on “Yes”.
• Once the software has opened, the hard disk is shown in the list. Should this not be the case, select
“POWER7 One-Bay NAS USB Device” manually, or click on “Refresh”.
Click on “NEXT”.
• You now have to select the
fi
rmware
fi
le. Click on the “Browse” button and navigate to the “Firmware” folder
on the CD.
Select
the
fi
le “
POWER7_ONE_BAY_NAS_Device_Upgrade_V2.000.292.bin
” and con
fi
rm, by one click
on “Open”.
• To start the process, click on “Upgrade” and con
fi
rm twice with “OK”.
• Once the process is completed, click on “OK”, to close the software again.
• Safely remove the hard disk, using the USB icon on the task bar, and then switch off the network enclo-
sure.
• Remove the USB cable and connect the device’s network port to a free network connection on your router
or network switch. For this purpose, it is best to use the 1:1 wired network cable enclosed.
To complete your con
fi
guration smoothly, a DHCP server should be enabled in your network.
• After this, switch the enclosure on again and wait for approx. 2 minutes until the start process is completed.
