Evening Check List

Attach

the Roger receivers and shoes to the

hearing aids, turn on and give the user the
hearing aids to put on.

Connecting

Hold the Roger Pen within 10cm

of the Roger Receiver. Press the Roger Pen Connect
button. Check that the user has heard the
confirmation beeps. Repeat for second receiver.
This may not be necessary every day but it doesn’t
hurt to check that it is connected.

Test

the overall system.

Put on the Roger Pen microphone, making sure it is
about 150mm/length of a biro from your mouth.
Move away while talking normally and make sure
that the hearing aid user can hear your voice clearly.

Re-order

spares as required ‒ always keep

spare shoes and hearing aid batteries etc.

Battery status

As the Roger X receiver takes its

power from the hearing aid battery, it is very important
that the battery is in good condition.

The normal life of a hearing aid battery will be more than
halved when used with a Roger X. Use a battery tester to
check the condition of the hearing aid battery. If in doubt,
fit a new battery in the hearing aid.

Take

the Roger Pen from the charging dock & turn on.

Charge

The Roger Pen has a battery life of approx 6 hours

so we advise charging daily. At night and during the day,
when the Pen is not in use, place it in the docking station to
top up the charge.
When charging, the indicator light will show orange and
change to green when fully charged.

Hearing aid, shoe

and Roger X

Receiver

The Roger Pen digital radio system can be a great help to a
hearing aid user ‒ a little of your time to help understand what
does what will be much appreciated.

Try not to draw attention to the
Roger user but do help them
by always repeating questions
from the floor, which they may
not have heard.

The student should give you the
Roger Pen transmitter turned
on and ready to use.

Hold the lanyard with
the pen facing
forward and bring the
ends round to the back
of your neck and let the
magnetic clasp clip
itself together.

There is no need to be self conscious
in wearing a radio microphone
‒ all the best TV stars do so.

Be aware that you have a direct
sound link to Roger Receiver
users in the room and mute the
microphone when you are
talking to others.

5 information points

During the lesson
the Roger Pen will
automatically
adjust to louder
voice levels
so you don’t
need to
change the
way you
normally talk.

The tutor wears the Roger Pen transmitter
to pick up their voice, the student wears
Roger receivers to feed sound directly into
their hearing aids.

The result is a greatly improved
and relaxed listening
experience for the
hearing aid user.

Avoid
wearing
'noisy'
clinking
jewellery.

If there is a problem:

‒ try another shoe (one of the more common problems)
‒ check both Pen and hearing aid battery status again
‒ check the microphone isn’t muted (look for violet indicator light)
‒ remember, you can use a stetoclip and attenuator to check and

listen to the hearing aid and radio aid yourself, if appropriate

‒ don’t panic but seek further advice from your specialist

education or audiology support service

Handy hint:

The Roger Pen

is supplied with a USB
cable which can be used to
charge the transmitter
from a
computer ‒
ideal if you
don’t have
your mains
charger handy.
