3 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
3.1 Introduction
Never leave children unsupervised in the vicinity of the cooker; there is a very high risk of burns from the hot surfaces.
Also:
- never use the cooker with the door open;
- never store firelighters or other easily combustible materials in the vicinity of the cooker;
- never attempt to move or lift the cooker by the handles.
3.2 Bottom baffle
Before operating the cooker, make sure that the bottom baffle, located underneath the removable stainless steel base plate
of the oven, is in the correct position (as shown in the figure).
For removal of the oven base plate, see the paragraph "Cleaning the flue".
3.3 First use
Remember that the range cooker must not be operated without being connected to the central heating system.
Before using your cooker for the first time, it is important to follow a few simple rules: clean the range cooker thoroughly and
then preheat it with low flame for about 30 minutes with the oven door open; ensure also that the oven bypass damper is
open by pushing the lever located above the oven door towards the inside of the cooker. After approximately 30 minutes,
close the oven bypass damper by pulling the lever towards the front of the cooker, but leave the oven door open.
After lighting the cooker for the first time, allow it to burn with a low flame for several hours!
You can then build up
the fire gradually, thereby drying out any residual moisture in the cooker and its materials. It is important to follow this
procedure in order to avoid damaging the cooker by a sudden increase in temperature.
Warning: when the cooker is first lit, some unpleasant odours may be released; ensure the room is well-ventilated.
3.4 Adjusting the combustion air flow
The combustion air flow and the heating power of the cooker can be adjusted by way of the rotary control (E)
located in the ash door and the thermostat (B).
Apart from the combustion air flow, the flue draught is the single most
important factor affecting combustion intensity and thus the cooking and heating power of your JOHANNA range cooker.
The greater the draft, the less combustion air the cooker will require and vice versa.
Check that the bottom baffle is firmly
located in its seating and that it positioned
so as to allow the flow of combustion gases.
